vermicelli

April 18th, 2008

You might not think it is possible to lose weight while on a diet which includes vermicelli but it can happen. The key is to not eat vermicelli or other high calorie rice, noodles, dumplings every day but in moderation.

For example, I allow myself rich food one day per week. I eat a calorie controlled diet 6 days a week, say 1400 to 1600 calories each day, and then on the last day, I eat whatever I like – within moderation of course.

I have been eating like this for the last month and it has helped me to lose 5 kilos. I have not increased my exercise plan or taken any supplements or diet drinks. I have just been aware of what I eat on most days and then eat whatever I like one day per week.

On my one day off per week, I tend to eat chinese food. I never believed I could lose 5 kilos while eating chinese meals but am very glad to see it does work. If you want to try some chinese food, I suggest you make vermicelli which is one of my most adored chinese recipes.

Vermicelli (China)

8 ounces Chinese rice vermicelli or bean threads
3 cups vegetable oil

Cut bundle of vermicelli in half. Gently pull each half apart into small bunches. Heat oil in wok over medium-high heat until it reaches 375 degrees F. Using long handled tongs or spoon, place a bunch of vermicelli in the hot oil (cook only one small bunch at a time). Cook until vermicelli rises to the top, 3 to 5 seconds. Immediately remove vermicelli from oil with tongs or slotted spoon. Drain on absorbent paper. Repeat to cook remaining bunches.

Makes about 4 servings.

You can vary the recipe to make it quite a bit healthier or with fewer calories as this can assist you to lose 5 kilos quickly. It worked for me and could aid you to lose weight too.
