soup nuts

June 22nd, 2009

You may not believe you could lose weight while on a diet plan which includes soup nuts but it is feasible. It is pivotal to not eat soup nuts or other high calorie soups every day but in moderation.

For example, I allow myself high calorie food one day per week. I eat a reduced calorie diet for 6 days of the week, say 1200 to 1800 calories a day, and then on the last day, I eat anything – within reason of course.

I have been sticking to this diet for the last 4 weeks and it has enabled me to lose 5 kilos. I have not accelerated my exercise plan or taken any pills or diet food. I have just been aware of what I eat on most days and then eat whatever I like one day per week.

I also believe it helps to have some support when dieting and for that I registered with the Biggest Loser club. They have lots of tools to help you monitor your progress and achieve your goals.

Soup Nuts (Mandlen)

1 teaspoon salt
2 cups sifted flour

Beat eggs slightly; add oil and salt while beating. Stir into sifted flour gradually to make a dough stiff enough to handle. Form into pencil thin rolls on a floured board or between the palms of both hands. Flatten slightly and cut into quarter- or half-inch pieces. Bake on a cookie sheet or in a shallow baking pan at 375 degrees F for 10 minutes until nicely browned. Shake the pan or stir occasionally to brown evenly on all sides.

When cold and dry, these Mandlen may be stored for several days and heated before serving in clear soup or with meat gravy.

Serves 6 to 8.
