You might not accept that you could lose weight while on a diet plan which includes rugelach but it is feasible. It is fundamental to not eat rugelach or other high calorie fritters, pastries, blintzes every day but in moderation.

For instance, I allow myself high calorie food one meal per week. I eat a low calorie diet 6 days a week, say 1400 to 1800 calories a day, and then on the 7th day, I eat what I please – within moderation of course.

I have been sticking to this diet for the last few weeks and it has aided me to lose 5 kilos. I have not changed my exercise habits or taken any supplements or diet drinks. I have just been aware of what I eat 6 days per week and then eat whatever I like one day a week.

On my one non diet day per week, I like to eat jewish food. I never imagined I could lose 5 kilos while eating jewish meals but am very happy to see it does work. If you want to try some jewish food, I suggest you make rugelach which is one of my most admired jewish recipes.

Rugelach

1 cup butter or margarine, softened
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup raisins

Beat butter and cream cheese at medium speed of electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Gradually add flour, beating until smooth. Cover and chill 1 hour. Combine sugar and remaining ingredients; set aside.

Divide dough in half; roll each portion into a 14-inch circle on a lightly floured surface. Sprinkle each circle with sugar mixture, and cut each circle into 12 wedges. Roll up each wedge, beginning at wide end; place on ungreased baking sheets, point side down. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.

Yields 2 dozen.

NOTE: For strawberry filling, omit sugar, cinnamon and raisins, and reduce pecans to 1/2 cup. Spread 1/4 cup strawberry jam on each circle, and sprinkle each with 1/4 cup chopped pecans. Cut, roll, and bake as directed.

You can adapt the recipe to make it quite a bit healthier or with fewer calories as this can assist you to lose 5 kilos quickly. It was successful for me and could aid you to lose weight as well.
