You possibly will not accept that it is possible to lose weight while on a eating plan which includes hungarian one pot stew – gulyas but it is feasible. It is fundamental to not eat hungarian one pot stew – gulyas or other high calorie beef/pork/lamb/veal every day but in moderation.

This is what I do, I allow myself moderately high calorie food once per week. I eat a reduced calorie diet for most of the week, say 1500 to 1600 calories a day, and then 1 day, I eat whatever I want – without going crazy of course.

I have been eating like this for the last 6 weeks and it has enabled me to lose 5 kilos. I have not changed my exercise habits or taken any vitamins or diet aids. I have simply been conscious of what I eat 6 days per week and then eat whatever I want one day a week.

I also believe it helps to have a little support when on a weight loss program and for that I signed up with the Biggest Loser club. They have numerous tools to enable you to monitor your progress and reach your goals.

Hungarian One Pot Stew (Gulyas)

Use a heavy Dutch oven, heated on high heat for about five minutes on top of the range, Add the following per person:

1 pound good beef, cut into cubes
2 large onions coarsely chopped
4 teaspoons paprika (hot or sweet, to taste – hot Hungarian is good)
2 ripe tomatoes, chopped
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
1 slice salt pork or bacon, chopped, sprinkled on top

Brown meat in a little good olive oil. Add onions, tomatoes and pepper. Be careful not to burn. Add paprika and cover with bacon or salt pork squares, cover and simmer until the beef is tender and the vegetables have made their own gravy. Watch for the first 30 minutes, but just stir occasionally after that. Season with salt after cooking, if needed. Serve with crusty French bread or giant southern biscuits.
