herring salad

You may not accept that it is possible to lose weight while on a diet which includes herring salad but it is feasible. It is crucial to not eat herring salad or other high calorie vegetables & salads every day but in moderation.

This is what I do, I allow myself high calorie food once per week. I eat a calorie controlled diet for most of the week, say 1400 to 2000 calories a day, and then on the 7th day, I eat whatever I like – within reason of course.

I have been eating like this for the last 2 weeks and it has helped me to lose 5 kilos. I have not accelerated my exercise routine or taken any vitamins or diet food. I have only been aware of what I eat on most days and then eat whatever I like one day of the week.

I also believe it makes things easier if you have some support when trying to lose weight and for that I signed up with the Biggest Loser club. They have several tools to help you monitor your progress and attain your goals.

On my one day off|non diet day|free day per week, I like|prefer|tend|usually like to eat scandinavian food. I never imagined|thought|believed I could lose 5 kilos while eating scandinavian meals but am very pleased|happy|glad|elated to see it is possible|does work|can work|can happen. Herring Salad (Sillsallad)

Serve this is an appetizer or as a side dish.

1 (22 ounce) jar herring cutlets in wine sauce, drained
3 medium potatoes, cooked and cubed
1 (16 ounce) jar pickled beets, drained and cubed
2 small dill pickles, chopped
1 apple, cut up
1 small onion, chopped
1/4 cup vinegar
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons water
1/8 teaspoon pepper
Dilled Sour Cream

Place herring, potatoes, beets, pickles, apple and onion in glass or plastic bowl. Mix vinegar, sugar, water and pepper; pour over herring mixture. Toss lightly. Cover and refrigerate, stirring once or twice, at least 2 hours.

Serve with Dilled Sour Cream. Garnish with parsley and wedges of hardboiled egg if desired.

Dilled Sour Cream
1 cup dairy sour cream
2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed

Mix all ingredients.
