You may not believe it is possible to lose weight while on a eating plan which includes german honey cookies but it is achievable. The key is to not eat german honey cookies or other high calorie desserts every day but in moderation.

For example, I allow myself these kinds of food one meal per week. I eat a reduced calorie diet 6 days a week, say 1500 to 1800 calories per day, and then on the 7th day, I eat what I please – within reason of course.

I have been sticking to this diet for the last few weeks and it has aided me to lose 5 kilos. I have not accelerated my exercise plan or taken any supplements or diet aids. I have simply been conscious of what I eat most days of the week and then eat whatever I want one day of the week.

I also find it helps to have some support when on a weight loss program and for that I joined the Biggest Loser club. They have lots of tools to enable you to monitor your progress and reach your goals.

German Honey Cookies

These cookies keep almost forever in a sealed container. They become softer and chewier over a period of time. They are perfect for dunking in your tea or coffee.

1 1/3 cups honey
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar
2 cups ground walnuts
4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 cup candied fruit or dried fruit chopped

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper, set aside.

Warm honey in saucepan, stir in sugar until melted. Let cool.

Sift together flour and spices. Place honey mixture in mixing bowl and gradually add flour mixture and stir until well blended. Stir in fruits.

Roll dough about 1/4-inch thick on a floured board, cut into squares and rectangles with a pastry wheel or sharp knife or drop cookie dough by teaspoonful. Bake 10 minutes. Remove from oven and cool.

Makes about 4 dozen.
