You may not believe you could lose weight while on a eating plan which includes flan but it is obtainable. It is fundamental to not eat flan or other high calorie deserts every day but in moderation.

For example, I allow myself moderately high calorie food one day per week. I eat a low calorie diet for 6 days of the week, say 1400 to 1600 calories per day, and then on the 7th day, I eat whatever I want - without going overboard of course.

I have been eating like this for the last 6 weeks and it has enabled me to lose 5 kilos. I have not changed my exercise regime or taken any supplements or diet food. I have only been careful of what I eat most days of the week and then eat whatever I want one day per week.

I also find it is helpful if you have professional support when on a weight loss program and for that I signed up with the Biggest Loser club. They have several tools to show you how to monitor your progress and achieve your goals.

On my one day off|non diet day|free day per week, I like|prefer|tend|usually like to eat mexican food. I never imagined|thought|believed I could lose 5 kilos while eating mexican meals but am very pleased|happy|glad|elated to see it is possible|does work|can work|can happen. If you would like to try|want to try|feel like trying some mexican food, I suggest|advise|propose you make flan which is one of my favourite|most admired|most adored|best loved mexican recipes.

Flan (Caramel Custard)

1/2 cup granulated sugar
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon salt

Heat 1/2 cup sugar in heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly, until melted and golden brown. Divide syrup among four 6-ounce custard cups; rotate cups to coat bottoms. Allow syrup to harden in cups, about 5 minutes.

Mix remaining ingredients; pour into custard cups. Place cups in 9-inch square pan on oven rack. Pour very hot water into pan to within 1/2 inch of tops of cups. Bake at 350 degrees F until knife inserted halfway between center and edge comes out clean, 40 to 50 minutes.

Immediately remove from water. Unmold and serve warm, or refrigerate and unmold at serving time.

Yields 4 servings.

Spiced Brandy Custard
Stir 2 tablespoons brandy, 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg into eggs.
